Daily Checkout sells general merchandise. It often sells items at no cost other than a shipping charge per product. The site offers limited alerts and average support options. Some additional features and reduced ship times would make them more competitive with other Deal of the Day sites we reviewed.

The site offers one deal of the day and several side deals. Once a deal is sold out, another doesn’t replace it until midnight EST. Each of the side deals is treated separately; one deal’s sellout doesn’t affect the others.

The site offers a large countdown clock, a few photos for the main deal and a video. The main deal includes a large photo and a section of thumbnails below which provide additional angles and detail of the featured deal. This same treatment is given to the side deals though they’re less likely to have additional photos. Videos are included, showing a humorous use of the deal.

While there aren’t many alerts available, there are some new media options available. Some of the social media alerts are sent through Facebook and Twitter. An interesting alert is on the website itself. In the event that a particular item falls below 25% inventory remaining, the price on the deal changes from green to red. There isn’t an accurate inventory of items remaining like Steep and Cheap.

Daily Checkout sells a wide variety of items including electronics, houseware, toys and jewelry. All items are new and can be purchased in wholesale quantities. Recent deals include body sprays, MP3 player, shaver, gels and a camcorder.

There are several deals daily. One deal is identified as the “main deal” and the others are called side deals. All deals share the same basic features (red/green to identify quantity remaining, countdown counter).

Daily Checkout does not accept any returns unless the item is defective. The site encourages you to return a defective product to the manufacturer as all items are new and include a manufacturer’s warranty. Details are a bit vague regarding what you need to do to return a defective product and who covers any shipping costs or restocking fees (if any).

All items are shipped from New York and can take up to 2 weeks before items are prepared and shipped from the warehouse. This extended time frame appears to have caused several complaints on their Facebook site. No specific information regarding shipment to Alaska and Hawaii or APO/FPO addresses is available on the site.

The site has an average number of help and support options. Standard support options (email, FAQs and telephone support) are available. Their Facebook site might benefit from some additional photos and updates on a more regular basis. Their blog site hasn’t been updated since September 2009 so it hasn’t been included as a current support option.

Summary:

Overall, Daily Checkout offers multiple deals on a variety of products each day. The site has an average number of alert and support options. Updating their Facebook and blog frequently would further increase their reach with customers. Reducing warehouse ship times should be a priority to remain competitive with the other deal of the day sites in our lineup.

Daily Checkout

Pros
Multiple deals are offered each day with some deals available for only the cost of shipping.

Cons
Slower warehouse processing times and limited alert and support options limit this site's potential.

The Verdict

The site does offer deals each day, but needs to enhance its customer support and alert options.
